Michal Menert
Michal Menert
Anchor Bay, California based electronic music artist and producer Michal Menert draws breath from the world that surrounds him, transmuting daily inspiration into music that is singularly his own.

“A synthesis of past, present, and future, elegantly woven together by the hands of Michal Menert.” – Huffington Post on Space Jazz

A youth steeped in a broad swath of both Eastern and Western musical traditions gives Menert a deep palate from which to draw; his passion for original analog sounds coupled with a vast knowledge of music history has given him a unique ability to pull from the global creative canon with ease. A multi-instrumentalist, he incorporates live guitar and keys into his final production for a full sound and rich feel.

As Menert co-produced the chart topping Pretty Lights album Taking Up Your Precious Time it was natural that he was the first artist to join Pretty Lights Music. His debut solo album Dreaming of a Bigger Life was released in 2010, followed by 2012’s mega-LP Even If It Isn’t Right. In winter of 2015 Menert released the highly anticipated Space Jazz, followed by fall 2015’s debut release by his band Michal Menert & the Pretty Fantastics, 1. His next release is expected in winter 2018.

In the live realm, Menert supplied sound design for Dead & Co tours in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, he supplied sound design on Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum rerelease in Fall 2016. Building on that relationship, Menert in both a featured performer and co-producer on Hart’s next studio record, slated for release in the fall of 2017.

Menert’s reputation as a live performer continues to grow, as he brings his music to fans nationwide via both his septet, Michal Menert & The Pretty Fantastics, and his 22-piece all-star ensemble the Michal Menert Big Band. His collaborations have led to the formation of myriad ongoing side projects including Manic Menert (with Manic Focus), Half Color (with Paul Basic) & Club Scouts (with Mux Mool). Over the years Menert has shared the stage with a number of musical luminaries including STS9, Bassnectar, Umphrey’s McGee, and more, and played legendary venues including the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, The Gorge in Washington and the Red Rocks Amphitheatre (twice in 2016 alone.)

Committed to a community driven approach to collaborative creativity, Menert works hand in hand with producers he chooses for his own record label, Super Best Records. A dynamic and ideological producer, collaborating and working closely with a new generation of hip-hop & EDM producers, Menert is dedicated to bringing a new musical vision to life free from limitation.

Shuj Roswell

What is Funktronadelic? Ask the man who invented the word and he’ll tell you it’s the combination of Electro, Funk, Hip-Hop, and Psychedelic Soul all working together to form that pocket groove.

Having grown up on Disco, Funk, R&B, and Rock n Roll, the Denver, Colorado based music producer, Shuj Roswell (Mark A. Cooley) wouldn’t have it any other way. He developed a keen ear for music from the young age of three as he recalls. “I can remember being in the back seat of my parents car, pretending to conduct the Boston Pop’s Orchestra. I could hear it all. The horns over here, the strings over there. When I was about 5 years old, my mom would clean the house and crank some Thelma Houston, Marvin Gaye, or Bee Gees on the living room stereo. I’d set up a make shift drum set of pots and pans and drum along to the music with wooden spoons. I was forming my own bands by 6. My friends and I would throw on a Commodores or Kool & the Gang record to lip sync and play imaginary instruments to entertain ourselves.“

Shuj has been in the Colorado electronic music scene since 2008 honing his craft of blending his favorite genres of music together. “There was a time in my life when my friends were drawing musical lines. There were my Hip Hop friends and my Rock n Roll friends and neither really liked one another but I loved it all. From Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Grateful Dead, and Phish to the Beastie Boys, Dr. Dre, B.I.G. and Nas, I soaked it all up” However, it was Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz and Boards of Canada that Shuj says really got him into Electronic music. Then he found DJ Shadow.

Shuj brings elements of the jam band blueprint to his live show as well. In addition to playing live guitar to many of his songs, he’s also supported by drummer, Tynan Olsen. The two mix up set lists at every show and try to leave room for improvisation, collaborations, segues, one time remixes, and mashup’s. “I want to play you the track on the record but give it to you in a slightly twisted up way. Maybe there's a vocal hook or a different drum beat or maybe even an added guitar line that wasn't there on the record.”

Shuj has released two records on Michal Menert’s label, Super Best Records. His debut full length album, Flying High Above The World and a 5 track EP, Everybody Loves The Sun which features several live musicians Shuj had the pleasure to produce, record, and work with for the project.

Roswell’s talents are quickly being recognized by producers, labels, and artists alike as his fan base vastly grows, making it clear that he’s on track to show the music world what Funktronadelic is all about.
